FAQs

Here’s the thing – the bonded stock for sale on Squelch is exactly the same stuff we’ve all been buying from the big merchants for years: same original sources, stored in the same places, same provenance. That’s how the secondary market works – merchants buy their inventory back from their original customers; the very same folk who now use Squelch. Bottles of fine wine often pass through multiple ownerships before someone finally pulls the cork, typically with a merchant facilitating the purchases and sales. But with Squelch you can now cut out the middleman and connect with the seller directly.

And when it comes to loose bottles, check out the seller’s reviews, read their bumph, ask questions (if there’s one thing wine lovers enjoy talking about, it’s wine!!). Most importantly, purchase safe in the knowledge that Squelch will be holding onto your funds whilst the seller delivers to you.

As Squelch is a C2C marketplace sellers are not obligated to accept returns – you can see on their ad whether or not they do. That said, if the wine that turns up is materially different to the advert or you have a concern, then you can raise a challenge on the Squelch system. Squelch will then put the release of funds on hold and step in to help get the problem sorted.

Generally you won’t be able to return wine that transpires to be undrinkable. Sellers do not and cannot guarantee than the wine will be in good quality, and this is a matter of caveat emptor. But in the spirit of the Squelch community, adverts should be frank and honest. If you believe the ad was misleading you can raise a challenge.

In Bond bottles are stored in an H.M. Customs & Excise bonded warehouse, meaning that VAT and duty haven’t yet been paid. So if you have these delivered to your home these costs will be added to your total. All other bottles – those physically in someone’s possession – are Duty Paid, so no VAT or duty will need to be added. For a detailed explanation of In Bond vs Duty Paid, please click here
