There are two common ways wine is stored — In Bond or Duty Paid. The storage type can affect the delivery options available.
Wines advertised as In Bond are stored in a H.M. Customs & Excise bonded warehouse, meaning that VAT and duty haven’t yet been paid. This is common for fine wines with a long shelf life — the storage conditions are optimal, it frees up space at home, and it keeps resale flexible, as wines In Bond can be re-sold on the international marketplace. Bonded wines will typically be full cases, though single bottles can also be held under bond.
Sellers can offer two delivery options (and more often than not, they will offer both).
Please note: The delivery options shown on a product page depend on the wine’s status and what the seller has chosen to offer:
If you only see one option, don’t worry — it simply reflects how the wine is being offered.
These are wines for which VAT and duty have already been paid. They are usually stored at home, but may still be held in a bonded warehouse (which is permitted). However, they will not be advertised as In Bond on Squelch. These listings can be for full cases or loose bottles.
When you buy duty paid wine, you’ll only be given the option of delivery to a physical address.
Any bottles stored at home should be listed as Duty Paid.
