Viñedo Chadwick is one of South America’s most prestigious single-estate wineries — a vineyard that redefined the potential of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate lies in Puente Alto, at the foot of the Andes in Chile’s Maipo Valley, a zone long regarded as the country’s “First Growth” territory for Cabernet.
The vineyard occupies the former polo field of Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz, one of Chile’s most influential wine and sports figures. In the early 1990s, his son Eduardo Chadwick — also the owner and president of Viña Errázuriz — decided to plant Cabernet Sauvignon on the family land, convinced that the site’s high altitude, gravelly alluvial soils, and cool Andean breezes could produce wines of world-class stature. The first vintage of Viñedo Chadwick was made in 1999, and it quickly became a symbol of Chilean fine wine.
Everything at the estate is done on a small, exacting scale. The vineyard covers just 15 hectares, farmed sustainably and picked by hand. Precision viticulture and minimal intervention in the cellar allow the site’s natural character to shine: deep yet refined fruit, freshness from altitude, and tannins of exceptional polish. Fermentation takes place in small stainless-steel tanks, and the wine is matured in French oak barriques (predominantly new) for around 22 months before an extended rest in bottle.
Viñedo Chadwick came to international prominence after the Berlin Tasting of 2004, organised by Eduardo Chadwick, where it and its sister wine Seña outscored First Growth Bordeaux and top Super Tuscans in a blind tasting of leading critics — a watershed moment that placed Chile firmly on the world’s fine-wine stage.
Today, Viñedo Chadwick remains a singular estate: one vineyard, one wine, and one vision — expressing Puente Alto’s terroir with purity, power, and grace. It stands alongside the world’s greatest Cabernet Sauvignons, a Chilean equivalent of a grand cru, made with both humility and precision.
