Château La Fleur-Pétrus is one of Pomerol’s great names, a benchmark estate that sits at the very heart of the appellation, both geographically and stylistically. Owned by Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, the family behind Pétrus and Trotanoy, La Fleur-Pétrus represents the perfect intersection of grace and power — a wine prized for its purity, poise, and quiet authority.
The estate takes its name from its position between Château Pétrus and Château La Fleur, a privileged stretch of the Pomerol plateau where gravel, clay, and iron-rich crasse de fer soils meet. The property dates back to the 18th century, but it was under Jean-Pierre Moueix, who acquired it in 1950, that La Fleur-Pétrus began its ascent to the top tier of Bordeaux.
Today the estate covers around 18.7 hectares, planted primarily to Merlot (about 91%) with small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vines average 35–40 years of age, though some parcels are far older, and meticulous vineyard management ensures low yields and perfect ripeness. The location — slightly elevated and exceptionally well-drained — allows the grapes to reach full maturity even in cooler vintages, giving the wine both richness and lift.
Winemaking is classical yet exacting. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted plot by plot before fermentation in small, temperature-controlled vats. Ageing takes place in 50% new French oak barrels for around 18 months, striking a balance between structure and finesse. The result is a Pomerol defined not by opulence but by elegant precision — a wine that speaks softly yet lingers long.
La Fleur-Pétrus is renowned for its silky texture, perfumed red fruit, and seamless tannins, offering aromas of plum, raspberry, truffle, and fine spice wrapped around a cool, mineral core. It evolves beautifully over decades, gaining notes of tobacco, forest floor, and violets without losing its graceful freshness.
Now overseen by Christian and Edouard Moueix, the estate remains a jewel of the Right Bank — a wine that captures Pomerol’s essence with poise and understatement. If Pétrus is the appellation’s monument to power, La Fleur-Pétrus is its voice of refinement: pure, timeless, and unfailingly elegant.
