L'Arrosee

Château L’Arrosée is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru with a history stretching back to 1868, named after an underground spring on its property. Located on the southern slopes of Saint-Émilion, its vineyards benefit from a privileged terroir of limestone and clay soils, merging sun-exposed steep slopes with more gently rolling parcels. The vineyard is planted to roughly 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, with vines averaging around 35 years of age. In the mid-20th century, the estate’s wines were produced by the local cooperative. It wasn’t until 2002, after acquisition by the Caille family, that major investment in redevelopment occurred—including replanting, cellar upgrades, and vineyard renovation—guided by consultant Gilles Pouquet (formerly of Cheval Blanc and Figeac). This revitalization aimed to restore elegance, purity, and structure. Château L’Arrosée remained under the Caille family until 2013, when it was acquired by Domaine Clarence Dillon (owners of Château Haut-Brion). After the 2012 vintage, the vineyards were merged into the adjoining Château Quintus project, marking the end of L’Arrosée as a standalone estate. Though no longer an active name, Château L’Arrosée remains a fascinating legacy of St-Émilion: a vineyard rooted in history, reborn through dedicated stewardship, and woven quietly into the narrative of Bordeaux’s next generation.
