Lascombes

Château Lascombes is one of the most prominent estates in Margaux and a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé (1855), known for producing rich, structured wines that combine Left Bank pedigree with a more modern, polished style. With a long history dating back to the 17th century, the château has evolved into one of the largest classified growths in Margaux, both in terms of vineyard holdings and global presence. The estate’s vineyards are spread across a wide range of terroirs within the Margaux appellation, including deep gravel, clay-gravel and limestone-influenced soils. This diversity allows for a high degree of blending flexibility, enabling the winemaking team to craft wines that balance power, texture and aromatic complexity. While Cabernet Sauvignon remains central to the identity of the estate, Lascombes is notable for its relatively high proportion of Merlot compared with many Left Bank peers, contributing to its signature richness and roundness. In recent decades, Château Lascombes has undergone significant investment and stylistic evolution. The modern approach has emphasised precision viticulture, careful parcel selection and a more refined expression of fruit and structure. While earlier periods leaned toward a more overtly opulent style, the current direction seeks greater balance, freshness and definition while retaining depth and generosity. In the cellar, vinification is carried out with a high level of technical control, including parcel-by-parcel fermentation and a tailored élevage programme in French oak. The aim is to build texture and integration while preserving the identity of each component, resulting in wines that are both expressive and structurally complete. Château Lascombes also produces a second wine, Chevalier de Lascombes, which allows for stricter selection in the grand vin and offers a more accessible introduction to the estate’s style. For collectors and fine-wine buyers, Château Lascombes represents a significant Margaux name with strong international recognition. Its wines combine scale, approachability and ageing potential, making it a versatile choice within the Second Growth category and a consistent performer in both primary and secondary markets.
