Jean Grivot

Domaine Jean Grivot is one of the leading family domaines of the Côte de Nuits, based in Vosne-Romanée at the very heart of Burgundy. The Grivot family has been part of the village since the late 18th century, and today the estate spans around 15.5 hectares across 22 appellations, including holdings in three grands crus: Richebourg, Echézeaux, and Clos de Vougeot. This breadth allows the domaine to showcase an extraordinary range of terroirs, from the supple elegance of Chambolle-Musigny to the depth and structure of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The modern chapter began in 1987, when Étienne Grivot took over from his father Jean. Since then, Étienne has established the domaine as a benchmark for precise, terroir-driven wines, guided by a philosophy of respect for the land and minimal intervention in the cellar. His work is supported by his wife Marielle and, more recently, by their children, ensuring the continuation of the family legacy. Viticulture is conducted with meticulous care and low yields, with an emphasis on healthy, balanced vineyards. All grapes are harvested by hand and sorted rigorously before vinification. In the cellar, Étienne’s approach is consistent and transparent: complete destemming, native yeast fermentations, and élevage in French oak barrels, with 40–70% new oak used for grands crus depending on the vintage. The goal is always to preserve clarity of fruit and purity of site, with oak providing structure and refinement rather than dominance. The style of the wines reflects this precision: expressive aromatics, fine-grained tannins, and a balance of depth and elegance that allows them to age gracefully while still being accessible in youth. From village-level Vosne-Romanée to the domaine’s grands crus, Grivot’s wines capture the essence of Burgundy’s greatest vineyards with integrity and finesse.
