Perrier-Jouët is one of Champagne’s most historic and elegant houses, renowned for its distinctive floral style and its long association with art and design. Founded in 1811 in Épernay by Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and his wife Adèle Jouët, the house quickly gained a reputation for finesse and quality. By the mid-19th century, Perrier-Jouët was already exporting to prestigious markets, becoming a favourite at royal courts across Europe, including those of Queen Victoria and Napoleon III.
A defining characteristic of the house is its emphasis on Chardonnay, sourced primarily from grand cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs, particularly Cramant and Avize. This Chardonnay-driven approach gives Perrier-Jouët wines their hallmark delicacy, freshness, and floral lift, setting them apart from the more Pinot-heavy styles of other grandes marques. The estate owns around 65 hectares of vineyards, including some of Champagne’s most prized Chardonnay plots, ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality fruit.
Winemaking at Perrier-Jouët blends tradition with precision. The cellar masters have long pursued a style marked by elegance, brightness, and harmony, rather than sheer power. Extended ageing on lees enhances texture and complexity, while careful blending preserves the house’s signature lightness. The result is Champagnes that are graceful yet expressive, celebrated for their ability to pair seamlessly with food as well as shine as an aperitif.
Beyond the wines, Perrier-Jouët is famous for its Art Nouveau associations. In 1902, artist Émile Gallé designed the iconic anemone motif that still adorns the Belle Époque bottles, making them among the most recognisable and beautiful in Champagne. This link between wine and art continues today, with the maison commissioning contemporary artists to reinterpret its heritage through modern works.
Perrier-Jouët’s range is anchored by the Brut and Grand Brut cuvées, while the Belle Époque prestige line represents the pinnacle of the house: pure, refined, and ageworthy blanc de blancs and rosé expressions that embody the maison’s dedication to Chardonnay elegance. Together, they affirm Perrier-Jouët as a house that marries history, artistry, and one of Champagne’s most distinctive house styles.
