Founded in 1785 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck, Piper-Heidsieck is one of Champagne’s great historic houses and a proud member of the region’s “Grandes Marques.” From its beginnings in Reims, the house quickly rose to prominence thanks to its bold style and high-profile admirers, including Marie Antoinette, who was famously presented with its wines in the late 18th century. Over more than two centuries, Piper-Heidsieck has remained one of the most recognisable names in Champagne, celebrated for its accessible yet distinctive cuvées.
The house takes its full name from the 19th century, when Christian Heidsieck’s widow married Henri-Guillaume Piper, combining both surnames. Under this identity, Piper-Heidsieck grew into an internationally recognised brand, exporting to markets worldwide and becoming a Champagne associated with glamour, celebration, and cinema — the house has long been a partner of the Cannes Film Festival and the Oscars.
Piper-Heidsieck sources grapes from across Champagne’s three great regions — Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs — working with a wide network of growers as well as some estate holdings. Its style is anchored in Pinot Noir, which forms the backbone of the blends, giving structure, fruit, and generosity. Chardonnay adds finesse and brightness, while Meunier contributes roundness.
The range begins with the signature Brut NV, a Pinot Noir-driven wine known for its fresh fruit character and approachability. Alongside it, the Rosé Sauvage has earned a following for its vibrant, fruit-forward style. Vintage Champagnes are produced in the best years, showcasing more depth and longevity. For decades, the prestige cuvée of the house was Rare Champagne, which has since been given its own independent brand identity.
In recent years, Piper-Heidsieck has sharpened its focus on sustainability, committing to certified sustainable viticulture and environmentally conscious winemaking. The house’s current chef de cave, Émilien Boutillat, continues to build on the legacy of his predecessors, crafting wines that respect the house style of generosity and vibrancy while pushing for even greater precision and purity.
Piper-Heidsieck remains a Champagne of celebration and style: a Grande Marque with over two centuries of history, admired for its consistency, its flair, and its ability to offer both everyday pleasure and prestige at the highest level.
