A Refined Introduction to the Pingus Philosophy

Flor de Pingus is the second wine of Dominio de Pingus, though its quality and reputation far exceed what the term “second wine” usually implies. First released with the 1995 vintage, Flor de Pingus was conceived by Peter Sisseck as a way to showcase the same uncompromising philosophy behind Pingus itself, but through slightly younger vines and a broader vineyard base. The wine is crafted entirely from Tempranillo, sourced primarily from old bush vines grown on clay-limestone soils in Ribera del Duero. These vineyards, while younger than those used for Pingus, are still of considerable age and naturally low yielding. The result is fruit of great concentration and vitality, handled with the same meticulous care in both vineyard and cellar as the flagship wine. Flor de Pingus offers a rich yet balanced expression of Ribera del Duero. Aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, and blueberry mingle with violets, graphite, and hints of spice. On the palate it is opulent and layered, yet lifted by fresh acidity and fine tannins, giving structure without heaviness. Ageing in French oak barrels brings subtle notes of cedar and cocoa, adding polish and depth. While more accessible in its youth than Pingus, Flor de Pingus also has the structure to evolve beautifully over a decade or more. It is widely regarded as one of Spain’s greatest wines in its own right, bridging the gap between collectability and approachability, and offering a clear window into the genius of Peter Sisseck’s vision.
