A Mature Gem

Louis Roederer's finest fizz from the best vintage of the 70s. For a 50 year old wine this is displaying remarkable character, though it's towards the tail-end of the drinking window. Priced after some strenuous research across both auction and rare retail instances from the last 20 years (because unfortunately the Squelch valuation tool only pulls from a limited pool of sources). Most experts agree it's in the £700-£3000 range, so I'm putting it at the lower end for my Squelch friends. Notes from recent tasting: The 1975 Cristal is sublime. The bubbles have largely subsided. What remains is an utterly, exquisite Champagne. Concentrated, powerful and vinous, for its age and vintage the 1975 simply has it all. Orange marmalade, spices and dried flowers add intrigue throughout.
