2017 Tenuta Prima Pietra is a full-bodied Toscana IGT red in the Bordeaux-blend style. Its appeal is ripe dark fruit with a herbal edge; the producer describes the tannins as fine and elegant. The wine at a glance Blend: 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot. Vintage and élevage: A hot, sunny 2017 was moderated by some August rain at this 450-metre site. The wine spent 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. In the glass: Blackberry and other dark berries, spice and refreshing herbs; 14% alcohol.
