A very special Spanish white made from the Macabeo grapes. El Jardín de las Iguales Blanco is the name of a vineyard that is under 2 hectares in size in the Barrandijos Valley, lying at an altitude of over 700 metres above sea level. This is a hundred-year-old vineyard growing the Garnacha and Macabeo varieties on slate and quartzite soils. As you can imagine, each strain produces very few grapes, but their quality is very high. The site is not accessible for machinery, so all the work in the field is manual. Once the El Jardín de las Iguales Blanco grapes are harvested, they are pressed in the traditional way, using feet. To make this wine, cold chambers are used for 2 days of pre-fermentation maceration. This happens with varying proportions of the stems and fermentation takes place at a constant low temperature. Finally, it ages for 12 months in foudres. This bottle has a slightly chipped wax top - please see photos. (it happened this morning as I took it out of the wine fridge). The cork though has not been exposed. Other than that it is in perfect condition. Received from a warehouse and stored ever since in a winefridge at 12 degrees. p.s. the condensation on the bottle is because I took it out of fridge to take photos.
