The quintessential Chateauneuf-du-Pape

The quintessential Chateauneuf du Pape. This vintage draws on cinsault from 60-year-old vines was wonderfully fruity; counoise, always picked late and never exceeding 13%, is elegant and fresh and in 2007 it will make up nearly 10% of the blend. The syrah is stronger and fuller with a purple-black brilliance and wonderful fruit. Mourvèdre has fat complexity and remarkable richness and the grenache, picked between 16-17%, delivers obvious strength wrapped in velvet. Outstanding 2015–2030. Held in reserve at the Wine Society since purchased en primeur.
