2018 La Braccesca Bramasole Cortona

Bramasole is Marchesi Antinori’s flagship Syrah from Tenuta La Braccesca in Cortona, Tuscany—a polished, oak-aged, cellar-worthy expression of the variety rather than a rustic Tuscan red. It is made entirely from Syrah and has been produced since the 2000 vintage. Producer / estate: Marchesi Antinori, Tenuta La Braccesca; Antinori has owned the estate since 1990. Appellation: Cortona DOC, Tuscany. Grape: 100% Syrah, from the estate’s sunniest parcel beneath Cortona. Terroir: Clay-loam soils and a dry, arid hillside climate, which Antinori considers particularly suited to premium Syrah. Winemaking: Fermentation in steel, roughly 15 days of skin maceration, then malolactic fermentation and about 12 months in French oak barriques, using both new and second-fill barrels. Style and tasting profile The current 2022 is described by Antinori as intense red with purple hues, showing plum, violet, liquorice, vanilla and cocoa; the palate is rich and supple with fine tannins and notable freshness. Positioning within La Braccesca Bramasole is the estate’s top, single-parcel Cortona Syrah; more depth, oak influence and ageing potential.
